What's maika'i?

"The ultimate luxurious sanctuary for brain recovery"
—designed for women navigating the urban grind.
In Roppongi, the city that never sleeps,
women who give their all every single day
often find their minds and bodies locked in a state of tension—a "Red Mind"—
without even realizing it.
Whether you are a mother juggling the endless multitasking of childcare and home life,
or a woman in the nightlife industry constantly facing the pressure of being in the public eye,
have you noticed any of these signs?
□ Waking up with a heavy, foggy head
□ A mind that never rests, constantly focused on your smartphone or numbers
□ Feeling self-conscious in crowded studios or under the gaze of others
maika'i ~Hawaiian Beach Yoga~ is
a private, appointment-only retreat salon
where you can shed the armor of roles and pressures
and return to your true self.
0. The Story Behind Our Creation
Why not create a "Hawaii" right here in the heart of Roppongi—one that doesn't require a passport?
The founder of this salon
majored in psychology during university,
deeply studying the mechanisms of the human mind and brain,
as well as
the impact of stress on the autonomic nervous system.
While working a demanding job in the professional world,
what saved the founder from reaching their limits
was the magnificent nature of Hawaii and Guam.
When exhausted from work,
they would fly off to Hawaii alone,
or—by adding just a single day of paid leave to the weekend—
spontaneously head to the sandy beaches of Guam.
Simply burying one's feet in the powdery white sand,
listening to the sound of the waves,
and being enveloped in the scent of aroma oils
would completely release the tension in a tightly wound brain,
filling the body with renewed energy for the days ahead.
They experienced this miraculous power of recovery
firsthand.
However,
as life progressed
and they took on greater responsibilities,
they faced a cruel reality.
"The more money, status,
and things one has to protect,
the harder it becomes—ironically—
to secure the 'consecutive days off' needed
to travel to Hawaii."
Executives and professional women
working in the Roppongi/Minato Ward area—
constantly pressured to make decisions
and pushed to the brink of mental exhaustion—
must surely be suffering from the same dilemma:
"I want to go to Hawaii, but I can't go right now."
"In that case,
why not create a 'Hawaii'
right here in the heart of Roppongi—one that doesn't require a passport?"
Driven by that strong conviction,
the project to create this studio began.
What *maika'i* was determined to achieve
was to avoid creating a salon that was merely "Hawaii-style" in appearance—
like a shop selling tropical decor. Drawing on a background in psychology,
we have thoroughly investigated why sandy beaches and Hawaiian-style spaces have a healing effect on people,
and have elevated the concept into a space backed by scientific evidence.
It offers physical skeletal realignment: forgetting hard floors, you step into powdery, pure white sand that sinks around your ankles—stimulating your core and returning your pelvis to a neutral position.
It provides a sensory reset for mental fatigue: the sound of waves—featuring "1/f fluctuation" (a soothing natural rhythm)—and Hawaiian aromas that act on the olfactory system to forcibly relax the autonomic nervous system, countering the constant sympathetic nervous system tension of daily life.
"A place where hardworking people—too busy to travel to Hawaii—
can easily access the 100% restorative power of a Hawaiian beach
after work or during a spare moment."
maika'i is
not merely a yoga studio.
It is the ultimate "luxurious brain-recovery base"
for those battling the daily grind of city life,
created based on psychology and scientific evidence.
1. Concept
Choose an authentic indoor retreat for your daily life.
A genuine, pristine white sandy beach unfolding in the heart of Roppongi 5-chome.
The rhythm of the ebbing and flowing waves, the light of dazzling sunrises and soft sunsets, and the gentle drift of tropical aromas.
With just a single step inside,
you leave the city's hustle and bustle behind,
and the mental noise of the analytical mind quietly fades away.
maika'i ~Hawaiian Beach Yoga~ is
an officially certified retreat salon of the
Japan Indoor Hawaiian Beach Yoga Association (JIHBYA),
offering an experience where you can savor the sensation of
"doing yoga on a Hawaiian beach" right in the middle of the city—
engaging all five senses. A sanctuary to recharge your mind and body—
created for the modern woman who pushes herself too hard
while wearing the armor of her various social roles
(wife, mother, career woman).
A profound stillness, akin to being in the heart of nature,
gently envelops your mind.
2. The maika'i ~Hawaiian Beach Yoga~ Philosophy
Science-backed brain resetting—far more than just "Hawaiian-style"
We are not merely a relaxation space
that relies on tropical decor or Hawaiian music
to create a superficial atmosphere.
Our programs are grounded in rigorous evidence from
environmental psychology, psychoneuroimmunology,
anatomy and physiology, and electrophysiology.
We scientifically curate the experience to engage
all five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
3. Lesson Features
Breaking the "nocebo" (mental curse) through the magic of words
A "Hawaiian Beach" style that gently aligns breath, mind, and body
We offer a relaxed program
inspired by Hawaiian beach yoga.
At maika'i ~Hawaiian Beach Yoga~,
the lessons are not about competing for the most beautiful pose.
We also completely eliminate negative instructions—
such as "don't push yourself" or "don't tense up"—
which can trigger the brain's amygdala and cause
physical tension in the muscles and pelvic floor (words that carry a "nocebo" effect).
All of our instructors are
"Association-Certified Space Producers" (salon-affiliated teachers)
who have passed the Association's rigorous academic and practical exams
(Objective Clinical Competence Tests)
and possess deep expertise in brain science and anatomy/physiology.
"Just as the moon waxes and wanes (like the moon goddess Hina),
the fluctuations in a woman's mind and body are proof
that she is living in harmony with her natural biorhythms (Pono)."
We deepen our sacred breath (*Hā*) while letting these
affirming words about life resonate within our minds.
Even beginners or those returning to exercise after a long break
can experience—within an environment of absolute psychological safety—
the ultimate sense of comfort found in the philosophy of "Being"
(the idea that simply existing is wonderful in itself).
4. Message
Shift your way of living—beautifully and gracefully.
"Even amidst the busyness of daily life, find a moment to feel the spirit of Hawaii in your heart
and liberate yourself from every burden..."
This studio was born from that heartfelt desire.
Here, right in the heart of Roppongi, Tokyo,
you can experience "Mana"—the life energy of nature—through all five senses,
grounded in scientific understanding,
and recharge the power needed to live a healthy, vibrant daily life.
Age, circumstances, the gaze of others—
break free from them all.
This is a place where you can step away from the constraints of social roles
(such as being someone's mother or wife)
and—of your own volition—
beautifully "shift" (transform) the life that lies ahead.
maika'i ~Hawaiian Beach Yoga~
remains a lifelong "life-care infrastructure"
where you can always return to your true self (*Pono*).
